Designer Spotlight : Fabrikoos – Digital craftsmen
This monthly selection is also a great opportunity to introduce you to one of our brand new designers: Fabrikoos. It is an independant design studio based in Delft, the Netherlands.
Fabrikoos is using the newest digital production techniques to make your brand new piece of furniture sustainably without the use of any screws, nails or glue. Digital production techniques like 3D printing and CNC milling are capable of turning a digital design into a physical object instantly. In this way the European manufacturing industry can once more compete with outsourced mass production. There are even predictions of a 4th Industrial Revolution based on digital production techniques. At Fabrikoos, they know the capabilities and the limitations of their own 5m wide CNC milling machine inside out and integrate this knowledge in their designs. Thanks to the 0.1mm precision of their CNC milling machine, the furniture can be slotted together and taken apart in no time, with no need for fastenings. This type of assembly results in a clear and functional aesthetic, resulting in a pure product made out of one type of (sheet) material, on one (CNC) machine, with one (digital) file: digital craftsmanship!
