Ettore is a brooch made of unglazed gray porcelain and brass. We were inspired by the ever so fascinating Memphis patterns from the 80’s. The asymmetry of these patterns are clearly important in Ettore’s design, which makes it a quirky item. Over time, the brass parts wil get a unique patina. We love how products change by using them. PS: If you prefer to keep the brass shiny, damp a paper towel with some white vinegar, wipe the patina off and Ettore is as new!
How Its Made
Ettore is completely made in our ceramics studio in Arnhem. We start with the porcelain part by slipcasting clay in a plaster mold. Next we make holes in the clay and fire the kiln up to 1260 degrees celsius, without glazing. In this way the porcelain gets its matte and rough effect. Then we cut the brass tubes by hand, which results in small size differences, therefore Ettore is slightly different, every time. The tubes are mounted in the holes and on the back a clutch pin is attached. Finally they are pinned on a card and that’s all!
