Product Description

‘ItWasSpring’: This is part 2 of my Icarian Fall collage serie. It is a personal illustration project, influenced by the myth of Icarus. In Greek mythology,Icarus is the son of the master craftsman Daedalus, the creator of the Labyrinth. Often depicted in art, Icarus and his father attempt to escape from Crete by means of wings that his father constructed from feathers and wax. Icarus’s father warns him first of complacency and then of hubris, asking that he fly neither too low nor too high, so the sea’s dampness would not clog his wings or the sun’s heat melt them. Icarus ignored his father’s instructions not to fly too close to the sun, whereupon the wax in his wings melted and he fell into the sea. Icarus story was mentioned in a poem by W.H.Auden in 1938: ‘..In Breughel’s Icarus, for instance: how everything turns away Quite leisurely from the disaster; the ploughman may Have heard the splash, the forsaken cry, But for him it was not an important failure;’ Those minimal images remind the allegory of the myth, of the man flying so high that nature punished him.

How Its Made

Icarian Falls Art Prints are made digitally in my studio computer. For my collages I use images I find on the web or photos I’m taking myself in my everyday wanders. I cut, distort, recolor them to create something entirely new. They come printed on high quality photographic paper. Icarian Fall#2 ‘It Was Spring’ is printed in dimensions 30×30 cm. It is shipped stamped and packed in paper envelope by nolongeroutside_.
