‘It’s Hard To Go Down [When you’re Up]’ is an urban collage inspired by the greek myth of Icarus and his fall. The contemporary Icarus is now falling on a chaotic metropolitan setting, like falling in a weird but colorful trap. The idea for this illustration was originally conceived when reading a text by Michel De Certeau: ‘‘Must one finally fall back into the dark space where crowds move back and forth, crowds that, though visible from on high are themselves unable to see down below? An Icarian fall….It’s hard to be down when you’re up’’
How Its Made
I’m working on my collages digitally in my studio computer, using images I find on the web or photos I’m taking myself in my everyday wanders. I’m cutting, distorting, recoloring them to create something entirely new. I’m printing them digitally on high quality photographic paper. It’s Hard To Go Down [When You’re Up] Paper Print comes on canvas dimensions of 60×90 cm. It is shipped rolled in a cardboard drawings’ tube, stamped by nolongeroutside_.
